It is a good idea to start your stem length and rise in the middle of
the range the first time through. These values are set by default, but can be
changed later to give a closer match with your existing bike.
If you
like a more upright position, say for a mountain bike, you may want to start out
with a larger value for rise. If you like a lower bar position to provide a more
aerodynamic position for triathlon riding, you may want to select a lower value.
